Frequently asked questions
Why is the fee I pay higher than the advertised percentage?
Because of the fixed fee. Every processor here charges a percentage plus a flat amount per transaction, and the flat part is identical whether the sale is $5 or $5,000. On small payments it dominates: a 2.9% + $0.30 rate costs 5.9% on a $10 sale. The advertised percentage is a floor, never the total.
How do I work out what to charge so I receive a specific amount?
Add the fixed fee to your target, then divide by one minus the percentage. Every calculator here shows this as "charge to net this" and updates it as you type, so you can quote a client a net figure without doing the algebra.
Do these rates include international and currency conversion charges?
They are shown separately, because they are optional and additive. Switch them on in any calculator to see the real cost of a cross-border sale — a converted international card can cost close to double the headline rate.
How current are these figures?
